Having been with Odiin for over four years, MJ has seen both the company and the Web3 industry evolve significantly. From navigating different market cycles to helping projects overcome hiring challenges, he’s built a wealth of experience along the way. We sat down with him to discuss his career journey, what has kept him motivated throughout the years, his thoughts on the current Web3 market, and the biggest lessons recruitment has taught him.

What has been your main driving force behind your long term progression at Odiin?

What has been your main driving force behind your long term progression at Odiin?

Constantly chasing the next target, incentive, bonus scheme, and personal best has always been a huge driving force for me.

P will get the hump but laugh, because as I’m approaching one target, I’m usually already asking him to draw up the next one. I’ve always needed something to work towards and a new goal to focus on.

Hard work, mental capacity & resilience has been huge.

What do we do here that enables longevity in your career?

We’re treated like adults rather than being micromanaged. If you’ve got a plumber coming at 9am, come in once it’s sorted. There’s an understanding that people have lives and commitments outside of work, and a trust that we’ll get the job done without being watched over or managed by a time clock. That flexibility is a big reason why people stay.

What’s the biggest misconception people have about the Web3 industry?

One of the biggest misconceptions is that Web3 is all scams and funky NFT artwork. And whenever you mention crypto, the first thing a lot of people seem to bring up is XRP!

They don’t see the real world applications and use cases being built, freeing us from the centralized ways of our society – where money is controlled by one governing body.

What hiring challenges are projects facing right now?

Right now it’s like an arms race for so many startups to pioneer their domain within the industry, and the trouble they are facing? Hiring speeds.

Companies battling to become number 1 in their sector need the best talent out there, fast.

That’s where Odiin come in, to fast track and accelerate this.

What do you want out of your career and why are you choosing to build it at Odiin?

To work into director level. This year I’ve stepped into a Lead Position, which is the first step towards proving I can do more than just bill.

What’s the biggest lesson recruitment has taught you?

Show that you actually use the products.

The biggest lesson recruitment has taught me is that life is a numbers game. Every ‘no’ gets you one step closer to a ‘yes’. It’s about taking those lessons and using them to better yourself.
